This weekend, the magic returns as the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast hits the big screens.
Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad and Ian McKellen all star in this reimagined classic about a young prince who’s been imprisoned in the form of a hideous beast, who’s only hope of salvation is to fall in love. When Belle, the first human girl to visit the enchanted castle, appears at his front door, the beast begins to hope that maybe, somehow, she could save his life.
To get you in the mood for Beauty and the Beast, we’ve picked our three favourite fairy-tale remakes.
Cinderella is one of the world’s most timeless and enduring fairy tales. Starring Lily James, Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter, Cinderella tells the story of young Ella, whose father remarries after her mother tragically passed away. After being forced to become her wicked stepmother’s servant, Ella’s fortunes begin to change when she meets a charming stranger in the woods. Cue a beggar woman with a pumpkin, some mice and a magic wand…
Cinderella comes loaded with special features, including a behind-the-scenes look at the dresses, a documentary about Cinderella, and an exclusive Frozen short film.
The Jungle Book
The Jungle Book tells the timeless story about a young orphan, Mowgli, who is raised in the jungle by a black panther, a bear and a pack of wolves. After being forced to leave the only home he’s ever known, he begins an epic quest through the jungle, learning a number of life lessons during a journey of self-discovery.
Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Christopher Walken, Ben Kingsley and Scarlett Johansson all lend their voices to this flawless CGI adventure, which looks stunning in high definition. Special features include discussions with director Jon Favreau and the production team about the reimagining of the Disney original, a look at the casting of Mowgli, and audio commentary.
Based on the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty, but told from the perspective of the antagonist, Maleficent tells the story of a young pure-hearted woman who grows up in a peaceful forest kingdom. Life is good, until an invading army threatens the peace. As she rises to protect the land, the wicked witch Maleficent places a curse on the new leader’s first born child, which grows up to be Princess Aurora.
Starring Angelina Jolie, Imelda Staunton and Elle Fanning, Maleficent is a must-own for any fairy tale fan. The Blu-ray comes with a number of special features, including a look at Fanning’s portrayal of Princess Aurora, deleted scenes and a documentary on the costume design.
